How to choose the right photos
This is the part people overthink. Here's the truth: almost any photo works beautifully as a magnet, as long as it has one thing — feeling. A technically imperfect photo of someone you love laughing will look more beautiful on a fridge than a technically perfect studio shot of strangers.
- Use portrait orientation or square crops — they fill the 2.5" × 2.5" frame best. Landscape shots work too, but square crops tend to be most balanced.
- Go for close-ups over wide shots — when you're working with a small format, faces and details read better than sweeping landscapes where everyone is tiny.
- Candid over posed, almost always — the moments that feel real print beautifully. The forced smiles at holiday card time? Less so. The belly laugh at the dinner table? Perfect.
- Good natural lighting makes everything better — outdoor shots, window light, golden hour — these print with warmth and richness. Dark, grainy, heavily filtered shots can lose quality at small sizes.
